2020 edgebrook orcas Swim team
Welcome to the Edgebrook Orcas Swim Team! August Practice Schedules August Practices will begin Monday August 3rd. |
July 30th
Welcome to the first ever August Swim Team at Edgebrook! We are all glad that you have decided to join us or stick with us, we are grateful for all of you.
The format is a bit different than July, as we have chosen to offer practices for you everyday Monday through Thursday. So you have a bonus day! This will help with staffing as some of the coaches will be off to college in the middle of the month.
Our priority is to maintain a safe environment for all of you and to follow all Covid-19 protocols. We also aim to provide you with an excellent instructional experience for your swimmer. As we combined the M/W/F and T/TH/S groups you will get to see some new people, but the number of swimmers will be a bit more, so we will provide more coaches per hour. The format will possibly include an additional station to the previous 3 station format. Some of the groups will get the opportunity for a little bit of dryland. This will assist us in maintaining the social distancing between athletes , coaches and groups.
We appreciate your support and understanding as we navigate through these new and trying times. Please continue to remind your children of our protocols. We have been amazed at how great the kids are following these guidelines.
Also, if you plan on being gone for a few days, please email me and let me know, this also helps me with scheduling the coaching staff.
Some of you have been moved to a different hour, I tried to keep this to a minimum , but it was necessary in order to meet the Covid-19 Standards. If you have any questions or concerns about your assigned groups, please email me and I will do my best to accommodate, but know that most groups are at capacity.
Stay safe, stay healthy and GO ORCAS!

Swim Team in August! (registration has closed. Please reach out to Coach Laura to confirm if there is room available)
August swim team will run from August 3rd through August 29th! We will have the same schedule as the July swim team, but will continue to evaluate sign-ups to adjust groups to maximize pool time and to give as many opportunities for participation as possible. The cost for the month will be $145 plus tax per swimmer – same as July. With so many other things around us being cancelled, it has been great having this service for the month of July, and we are looking forward to another month of fitness offerings in the pool for our young athletes who can swim laps!
Registration is now available and will be the same as for the July team via our Club Automation portal, but our front office is happy to help you register if you are experiencing any issues with the process. Registration closes Tuesday July 28th.
If you have any questions about registration, please reach out to the front office via email. If you have questions related directly to swim team and instruction, please reach out to me, Coach Laura

We are glad that you have chosen to join us for this very unique summer. Please read the following information AND THE ABOVE SWIM TEAM INFO SHEET so that you will be ready for the first day of practice next week. All guidelines are subject to change in accordance with state guidelines. We have split the team into two practices groups – a Monday/Wednesday/Friday grouping and a Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday group.
Please know that the EB coaching staff will making all choices to maintain social distancing for these athletes. We must follow all of the guidelines that the Washington State Department of Health have presented to us. They updated guidelines last week and we needed to be sure that the program we had put together met the new guidelines they asked for. While we know other programs have made their own facility choices for how they are proceeding, we have stuck with using strict guidance from the DOH. In addition, our team is still very large and we needed to come up with ways to still service everyone who registered. Please know that we will also try to make the experience for these swimmers as educational and fun as possible.
The format each day for practice will begin with registration and sign-in through the appropriate entrance gate from the parking area. The athletes will be asked to stay 6 feet apart when entering the pool deck and parents will be asked to remain in the parking lot. If you would like to watch practice, please bring a chair to watch along the side of the deck on the outside of the fence near the outdoor tennis courts – be sure to stay 6 feet apart from other parents as well and to wear a mask. This will help us continue to meet capacity restrictions on the pool deck and for our facility.
When the practice begins, five athletes will be assigned to each coach. There will be three separate stations on the pool deck and the athletes will be rotated through the three stations. The swimmers will spend 15 minutes in the deep competition part of the pool (1 swimmer per lane in lanes 1-5), 15 minutes in the shallow (educational area) of the pool and 15 minutes in lane 6 working on a variety of skills (starts, turns and deep water skills). All stations will have us with athletes 6 feet apart from the other athletes. Masks are required by everyone around the facility, except when swimmers are actively in the water.
When the practice session is over the swimmers will be asked to exit the pool area as quickly as possible. The locker rooms are not closed, but we ask that you try to minimize the use of them. Please bring your swimmers to the pool ready to enter the water and please bring them home to shower.
We are excited to offer swim team even for a limited time. The cost breakdown of these small group instructional offerings is less than the cost of semi-private and even small group lessons here at the club. Here are some important notes regarding refunds and cancellations for swim team this summer:
If your child is playing tennis at Edgebrook this summer, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate. Unfortunately, I cannot accommodate all requests for changes, but will do my best.
After much contemplation, this is truly the best situation that we can work with. We aim to give these athletes the best possible swimming experience that we can in these unprecedented times. We are all anxious to be somewhat normal, so we will do what we can to provide some sense of that, while focusing on the safety of your children! Please reach out to me directly with any concerns.
