TENNIS COMMITTEE CHARTER
REVISED 1/2016
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
The Tennis Committee shall promote and monitor tennis activities within the Club. It is the responsibility of the Tennis Committee to advise the Board on any tennis-related programs. These include but are not limited to:
1. Day & Evening Flights
2. Women’s Interleague play (Cups)
3. Junior Tennis Program
4. All Tournaments
5. USTA Teams
The Tennis Committee Chairperson shall be appointed by the President of the Board of Directors of the Club and be selected from one of the current Board of Director members.
The Tennis Committee shall consist of the Tennis Committee Chairperson and a minimum of 3 (up to 6) other members in good standing who agree to serve on the Committee. Ideally, the members of the committee will represent a broad cross-section of Club tennis participants, including women and men, a variety of NTRP ratings, and participation or interest in a variety of tennis programs including the junior program. The term of service shall be for one year (effective February 1 to January 31) unless stated otherwise. Members may serve consecutive years if it is the pleasure of the committee chair.
The Tennis Committee shall assist the Tennis Director in the hiring and firing of Tennis Professionals as requested by the Tennis Director or the Board. The Tennis Committee shall advise the Club Manager and Tennis Director regarding the performance, behavior, and teaching quality of the tennis staff.
The Tennis Committee shall advise in decisions in support of the Club’s tennis programs. All items of business that impact club operations and/or finances will be deferred to the Board of Directors.
The Club Manager and the Tennis Director or their representative(s) shall be included in any Tennis Committee meetings.
The Tennis Committee will not set policy, but will recommend to the Board any action that needs to be taken. The Tennis Committee Chairperson as a member of the Board should bring such matters to the Board for discussion and potential action.
The Tennis Committee shall monitor the allocation of court time to help assure that courts are being used in the best interest of the membership and advise the Club Manager, Tennis Director and Board accordingly. The Tennis Committee should always ensure that there is adequate open court time for the membership, tennis programs and teaching, while maximizing the income potential of open courts.
The Tennis Committee shall bring any problems or complaints presented by the membership related to tennis programs and/or tennis staff to the committee meetings. Any member may bring a concern to the Tennis Committee, and any member may attend a Tennis Committee meeting. The Tennis Chairperson and Club Manager shall keep the Board advised of any situations / concerns that need to be resolved.
The Club Manager and Tennis Director are responsible for informing the Office Lead/Bookkeeper of any additional tennis information or promotions that need to be placed in the newsletter. The office staff shall handle normal information about flights, tournaments, USTA, cups, etc.
